The course
Golfing holidays on the Costa del Sol
Baviera Golf Club is located in the Creek of Velez close to the Axarquia coastal town of Torre del Mar. It is made very accessible by to the proximity of the Mediterranean Highway which runs within 500 metres of the club house. The highway is the main artery connecting Barcelona and Madrid along the entire Spanish Mediterranean coast. Malaga International Airport is 30 minutes drive.
Opened in 2002 the course was designed by José Maria Cañizares famous as two times world champion and Ryder cup team member. José Maria has given thought to all levels of player in the fundamental design strategy here. There are quick greens, various water hazards and undulating fairways which all in all put the course in the category "moderate to difficult".
The general aspect is very picturesque set against the often snow capped mountains of the Sierra de la Almijara inland to the north and the blue Mediterranean sea only 2 kilometres to the South. Access is from the coastal fishing village of Caleta de Velez via the resort town of Torre del Mar.
The course length is 5609 metres and the ladies course 4714 metres - both are par 71.
Facilities include a club house with delightful restaurant and bar with open log fire, driving range, pitch and putt, putting green, showers and golf school. Clubs, golf carts and trolleys can all be hired and all comers are made to feel at home & welcome.
The club professional is always on hand to give both group and private lessons.
Prices vary with the seasons but the club is generally in the lower end of the price scale and very often has special offers available - a typical offer as an example - "Christmas special of two rounds for Euros 90.00" this offer was Christmas 2004.
The area surrounding the club is typically Spanish with small Andalucian white villages dotted around the inland regions which are hilly becoming mountainous - wonderful walking country.
The coastal towns have long unspoiled and uncrowded beaches making the area ideal for family holidays. There is lots of good hotel accommodation, self catering villas and apartments are plentiful ( see self catering accommodation on this website ).
The village of Caleta de Velez has a yachting marina where boats can be hired and fishing trips arranged.
Shopping is easy and good in the close by towns of Velez Malaga and Nerja.
